The building design and project management for the work carried out for Osakidetza bear the signature of KREAN. The project involves the renovation of the Admissions area, PUCS (Patient and User Care Service) and Information Unit at Cruces Hospital, and meets the needs for improved accessibility, personalised care and comfort for the more than 11,000 patients and family members who pass through the hospital every day.
The aim of the work has been to adapt the care areas to the new needs arising from Osakidetza's Demand Management model, a more accessible, comprehensive and personalised care model.
The renovation covers an area of 650 m2 and prioritises the use of construction elements and materials such as wood to create a warm and welcoming environment. Special attention has been paid to natural light and lighting, and solutions have been implemented to minimise noise for environmental comfort.
The Patient and User Care Area (PUCS) occupies an area of 125 m2, divided into a space for social workers and another for patient care. The new Admissions area has almost 100 m2 for receiving patients and a new waiting room shared with the PUCS and equipped with natural lighting.
On another hand the refurbished information desk welcomes visitors in a 250 m2 lobby at the hospital entrance, integrated into a semicircular space that anticipates the hospital's restored and unique circular staircase. In addition, the covered exterior porch has been restored and the access doors have been renovated without altering the exterior appearance of the building.
