Renovation of the sports centre and new pelota court at the Lezao sports complex in Agurain

On December, the renovation of the sports centre and the new pelota court at the Lezao sports complex in Agurain were inaugurated. KREAN was responsible for drafting the plans and supervising the works.

The solution adopted unifies the language of the various interventions carried out over time in the sports complex, in order to achieve formal and material coherence in the whole. A single volume has been created to house the new pelota court and the renovated sports centre, which is attached to the existing swimming pool building. A break in the height of the building has been created to adapt to the height required in each space, as well as to generate rhythm in the façade. Horizontal strips have been created in the elevation to visually reduce the scale of the building.

The space has central stands that serve both the pelota court and the sports centre, under which the collective sports changing rooms and auxiliary rooms have been located. In this way, the maximum possible dimensions have been achieved for both the sports centre court and the pelota court, and the spaces allocated to common areas have been reduced. In addition, the pelota court has retractable stands that allow for greater capacity when necessary.

The new volume is connected to the existing swimming pool building by a gallery with large windows that lighten the volume and allow natural light to enter the interior. Work has been carried out on the envelope of the swimming pool building, replacing the carpentry and adding insulation to both the façades and the roof. The façades have been clad with ETICS. The energy demand of the existing building has been improved while integrating it into the architectural design of the complex.

The complex has been decarbonised through the installation of heat pumps for DHW and climate control. In addition, photovoltaic panels have been installed on the roof to generate renewable energy.
