LABORAL KUTXA, IKERLAN and LAGUN ARO have entrusted KREAN with the design and construction management of the redevelopment project for the A.E.22 Olandixo area in Arrasate-Mondragón. The project involves a major transformation aimed at improving and modernising this strategic cooperative industrial estate.
The project has focused on creating a more accessible and people-centred environment. One of the key aspects of the intervention has been the prioritisation of pedestrian traffic over motorised traffic, reconfiguring the spatial hierarchy to encourage walking. In line with this, specific measures have also been adopted to reduce vehicle speeds, thereby increasing road safety within the site.
The redevelopment has also made it possible to create more space at the entrances to the buildings, giving them greater prominence; as a result, entering and leaving them is now more convenient, safer and more pleasant. At the same time, the project has succeeded in increasing the number of parking spaces, carefully integrating them into the landscape to minimise their visual impact. Another key aspect has been the creation of new spaces for people to linger, relax and enjoy the views, designed as meeting points and places for people to enjoy themselves.
From a technical perspective, the project has included the complete renewal of the paving, as well as the comprehensive upgrading of the utility networks, ensuring their efficiency and durability.
As a general principle, the alignment of the road’s longitudinal axis has been modified to create a single, wider pavement instead of the two narrow pavements that previously existed. The perceived reduction in the width of the carriageway – achieved through the use of different paving treatments, the introduction of transverse rhythms and the continuity of materials between pedestrian and vehicular areas – encourages a reduction in vehicle speed and functionally prioritises pedestrian mobility.
With this project, the Olandixo area is established as a revitalised, modern and functional space, in line with current needs and geared towards a more sustainable, accessible and people-centred urban model.
