Development of an analysis of the climate risks for the headquarters of the MONDRAGON Corporation cooperatives in the Basque Country and Navarre.
KREAN has presented the Analysis of Physical Risks to MONDRAGON Corporation Cooperatives at the Sustainability Forum held in Arrasate.
The aim of the study is to analyse the physical risk arising from climate variability in order to prevent the potential impacts that the locations analysed may suffer as a combination of climate variability, exposure to it and vulnerability to these climatic events.
The potential impacts derived from the risks analysed include, for rising temperatures and heat waves, risks to human health, lack of outdoor and indoor comfort, and increased energy demand. Flooding caused by river overflow and sea level rise leads to potential impacts due to road blockages, power cuts caused by flood damage to equipment and facilities, and damage to buildings, facilities and infrastructure due to the effects of flooding.
The analysis included a total of 212 cooperatives and societies located in 100 locations, covering 50 municipalities in the Basque Country and Navarre.
In turn, climate change resilience measures have been defined, including improving energy efficiency and analysing alternatives for energy transition, actions to prevent the heat island effect and action against extreme temperatures, reducing river flooding and resilience to sea level rise.
